In the 40s of the last century the
sisters started a small rest home for elderly ladies within the
Monastery located in Via Bolognese.
The
court in front of the Monastery is also the main entrance to
the rest home
The rear of the Monastery has a large garden and some land,
where the ladies can walk
and spend some time every day
Since 1986, when school activity ended,
as advised by the Florence Archbishop Silvano Piovanelli, this has
become the main Monastery activity. So, following the natural
evolution of society and its needs (due to a larger presence of
elderly people than young and children) the sisters have been
dedicating to assisting self-sufficient elderly ladies.
A
part of the Monastery was refurbished and changed into a comfortable and
well equipped Rest Home.

The Holy Spirit Elderly Rest Home is a
so-called “Assisted Social Residence”, authorized in 1993 by the
Municipality of Florence (Sanitary Local Authority ASL10).

Each lady lives in a small apartment,
free and independent from the other guests. The apartment is made of
a bedroom-living room and a bathroom with toilet. Each lady can
customize her rooms, by furnishing them based on her personal taste.

A surprise for the Epiphany day
(based on
the Italian tradition, an old woman brings gifts and sweets on January 6th)
From time to time the sisters organize
entertaining events to gladden the hearts of the guest ladies
The original mission, which is
educating children and the young, is still alive out of the Florence
Monastery, in the Carbonia community, in Sardinia, where a nursery
school is currently active.
